In my opinion OCR is the most straightforward exam board choice for GCSE Business. It’s the one I chose for my son and the one I recommend to other people. The only exception is if you need a November sitting, in which case you might want to consider my Edexcel IGCSE Business Studies Course which is coming soon, you can sign up to be notified when it launches (it should be in the next few months).
How the Course is Structured
The infographic below shows how my OCR GCSE Business course is structured. There are 44 lessons split over the 6 topics on the specification plus 6 end of topic revision and exam practice lessons as well as an additional revision lesson at the end.

Why I Made this Course
I studied business at university and I have found it useful ever since, both in running my own businesses and in understanding organisations I’ve worked for.
When my son became home educated we discussed which subjects he’d like to take at GCSE and I was really pleased that he was interested in business.
He hates live classes and also hates watching long videos, he has the attention span of a gnat! I knew I’d need to break the learning down into really small segments and that’s how the idea for this course came about.
The Aim is to Keep Learners Engaged
This course utilises a number of different learning methods to keep learners from getting bored and switching off their brains. The video lessons that cover the main content are short (around 10 minutes) and none of the activities take a lot of time. By processing the information in a number of different ways, it helps the brain move it from the short term to the long term memory.
Each lesson contains a revision quiz that covers material from previous lessons, this frequent recall also helps with memorisation.
50 lessons might seem like a lot, but by breaking the content down into smaller chunks it’s much easier for learners to digest.
Ways of Approaching the Course
Each lesson has a lot of different activities and it’s up to you which you use and how you use them. The core of each lesson is the revision quiz, the video lesson and the worksheet. I would definitely suggest doing these to learn the content. All of the other activities are to enhance learning and can be used to cement understanding or used later on as revision exercises.
Does the Course Cover Everything Needed for the GCSE?
Yes! The course is designed to work alongside The OCR GCSE Business textbook by Mike Schofield but the course itself covers the whole specification (allowing for human error!) so if reading from a textbook isn’t the right learning style, then there’s no need to buy it.
As well as the content needed for the exam, the course also covers how to answer the exam questions and 6 sets of exam style practice questions.
How Long will the Course Take?
How long the course will take depends on how much time you spend working on it. Below are some suggestions for one and two year timescales, depending on if you just work during the traditional school year, or if you work over the full year, taking off 6 weeks for holidays.

How Much does the Course Cost?
We are offering an introductory price for the course of £99 (full price £120). This price gives you full access to the course for 3 years from the purchase date.
We also offer a marking package which includes marking of the 6 end of topic sets of exam style question plus a mock exam (including papers 1 and 2). The marking package costs £60 but you can buy the course and marking package together for £149 (full price £180).
The exam is not included in the course fee and needs to be booked and payed for separately. I’m happy to advise on this where I can.
